Marquette Method and breastfeeding

Breastfeeding is a deeply meaningful season that fosters a unique bond between mother and baby, while also offering well-known health benefits for both. In the postpartum period, learning how to understand and work with your changing fertility can feel overwhelming, but it can also be an empowering part of your journey. The Marquette Method for breastfeeding women is a modern, evidence-based approach designed specifically to support mothers in this season, offering clarity and insight into fertility patterns while honoring the realities of postpartum and breastfeeding life.

I know firsthand how challenging it can feel to track fertility during this time—I've walked through it myself four times. Each experience taught me something new, and I understand how much reassurance and simplicity can matter when you’re in the middle of it.

My goal is to make this process feel less confusing and more approachable for you. I will be here with you as you learn, offering support, answering your questions, and helping you feel more confident as you navigate your own unique postpartum journey.

  • If you’ve just had a baby, I understand that you don’t have time or energy to spend learning a complicated new method of natural family planning. With the Marquette Method, our first appointment is approximately 60 minutes, and you will be ready to begin charting right away with clear, simple instructions.

I also know that at some point, you and your husband will be looking forward to reconnecting and resuming intimacy. Research has shown that, during the early breastfeeding postpartum phase, this method generally involves fewer days of abstinence compared to many other natural family planning methods.

My goal is to make this process as straightforward and supportive as possible, so you can feel confident and cared for during this season.

  • At the heart of the Marquette Method is the use of modern fertility monitoring tools. These tools help women better understand the natural hormonal shifts that can sometimes feel unpredictable, especially during the postpartum period. By providing objective, real-time data, they offer greater clarity into your reproductive patterns when things may otherwise feel uncertain.

For busy mothers, the process is simple and manageable—typically just one quick test per day is needed to gain a clear and confident picture of fertility.

  • Every woman’s body is unique. There are options women can choose to integrate into their fertility tracking in addition to the Clearblue Fertility Monitor. But extras are not required! The flexibility and personalized nature of the method allow mothers to tailor their approach according to their specific circumstances, promoting a more individualized breastfeeding experience.

  • The Marquette Method’s insights into fertility windows can be invaluable for mothers seeking to manage their family planning goals alongside breastfeeding. And the method comes with great effectiveness rates - up to 98% effective for breastfeeding women! Many women switch from another method of NFP for breastfeeding due to simplicity and effectiveness.

  • The Marquette Method recognizes that breastfeeding mothers have specific needs, and it is tailored to support their goals. Whether a mother is looking to exclusively breastfeed, try some pumping, or introduce solids, the method offers insights into the return of fertility and the fertile window, aiding informed decision making.
